Portion control is not something we have discussed in the past but it has been a big part of our success.
Dr. Sferra gave us portion control advice when we began this journey. He told us to follow the hand chart (shown above) because it is a good reference to have when making healthy food choices at home and out-side the home.
When making a plate of food at home we follow the 25-25-50 rule. Our lunches and dinners are made up of 25% lean meat, 25% starch and 50% fibrous vegetables (see picture example).
