DAY 4 of The First 100 Days: A journey to health & wellness

The first 100 days: A journey to health and wellness.
Day #4

Sean:
We are more than half way through our detox!

I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about today because at this point we are feeling good and have developed a meal routine. It was just an average day…..until 4:41pm, when I received this text message from Kristen “I accidently cheated on our detox!!! I ate a lifesaver mint at work out of habit.” I laughed it off because to me that is hardly cheating but a few minutes later I had an “aha” moment and I thought it would be a great topic share it with you.

What resonated with me about that text is the ‘out of habit’. I started to think about how many things that I did ‘out of habit’ and then asked myself if my habits were helping me or hurting me.

My morning habits and routine before the detox – Wake up, start a pot of coffee, toast an English muffin and lay on the couch until the coffee was ready. Once the coffee was ready I made a cup, prepared my English muffin and went back to the couch. My day did not officially start until after I had at least one cup of coffee and my English muffin. That whole process would take about an hour. Those habits were nutritionally unhealthy and also a waste of time.

My morning habits and routine since starting the detox – Wake up (feeling much more refreshed), drink a 20oz glass of water, make 4 protein smoothies (during the detox Kristen and I drink 2 protein shakes per day), prepare and pack the rest of my meals for the day and then drink my breakfast smoothie. That whole process takes 45mins.

I’m going to be more aware of my habits and identify the habits that are not helping me achieve my goals and create new habits to incorporate into my daily routine.

In just the few hours I have already made some changes, one not related to the detox but I believe is part of my journey to health and wellness. I looked in the mirror, not figuratively. I literally looked in the mirror and noticed a ‘habit’ on my face, the facial hair on my chin. I have had it for years, I started to grow it in an effort to hide my double chin. Instead of losing weight to reduce or eliminate my double chin, I grew facial hair to cover it up. Silly logic. OKAY I’m off to stop bad habits and start new ones.

 Kristen:
How do I even follow that?! Yay! We’re at the halfway point of our detox!

Here’s what I learned today:

  • Today was the first day of my period and my cramps were minimal. On a scale of 1 – 10, I would say they were a 2/10. Normally, before detox I would have “get the heating pad and lay in fetal position” kind of cramps.
  • I’ve noticed that I feel full on less food.

Sean shaved his facial hair, I miss it already.
